This shot was taken at Kuang Si waterfalls which is not far from Luang Prabang in northern Laos. We were there at the end of the wet season, so the gentle trickle into blue pools which typifies the vista in dry weather had been replaced by an impressive torrent of muddy water cascading towards the Mekong.
While walking through the bush towards the falls, I saw this overflow stream that wound past the pathway. It looked just like a miniature version of the falls in the dry season.
It’s really amazing what you can find if you look around an attraction rather than just focusing on the site you came to see (a lesson reinforced to me by some students who traveled with me recently).
